e’re subjected to all sorts of extremes on a daily basis : consumerism, sexualisation of media, terrorism. Some would argue that 13 year-old, Deborah Draper is just another example of the religious variety. My question is, is she? Or is she just commendably consistent? More so than those who critique her, with weak counter arguments, intellectual dishonesty, and dismissive hand-waving. It’s on Iplayer till Tuesday. let me know what you think…

Snow more good will?
I don’t know about you, but in London, my hometown, it’s been snowing heavily and even more remarkably I’ve had more conversations with strangers and neighbours (read other kind of strangers)in the last couple days than I have in the past 3 months.
Amazing how this abundant blanket gives a common patchwork we can identify with remark on, enjoy, admire, throw around and complain about. On the whole people have been chatty (uncommon in London) and friendly. I’ll enjoy the snowmen and goodwill while they last; as it melts it seems hearts grow colder. I can almost hear “harsh reality” composing her own LL vs. L-Boogie Mashup ‘Don’t call it a comeback… It all falls down!’

Goodbye, Ms FB.
As you may have guessed from my on and off presence here and my recent blog (So long FB profile), my embattled relationship with my FB profile is soon to end*. The sun is setting on my love/hate relationship with Ms FB .

At length I found Ms FB is a bit like that person who sees you at a cocktail party/reception, eagerly takes you by the arm and begins introducing you to strangers, and then in mid-sentence forgets your name. Read more

This video is great, funny patter, too, ”I saw you play Iverson 1 on 1″. What a hustle, unassuming or what.
Swish Spins #8
Throughly enjoyed playing these records. In a percussive mood after passing through the jazz cafe last night (OneTaste). Some of them are from best of compilations, but I figure so what.. they made it into those shortlists for a reason, right? Highlights include some lovely harmonies on the Fontella Bass opener and from the Yusef Lateef track ‘Live Humble’. The jazz-folk waltzy number from the outstanding Portico Quartet, got a reload for my guests this evening… I could go on… alright then, I also found great little Ben Harper acoustic guitar serenade, and blew the digital dust of the marvelous ‘Medicine For My Pain’ by the late Lynden David Hall. I remember the first time I heard this record – I think I played it 11 times over on repeat.
Familiar Ground – Cinematic Orchestra ft. Fontella Bass (Ma Fleur)
Knee Deep In The North Sea – Portico Quartet (Knee Deep In The North Sea)
Life In Technicolor – Coldplay (Viva La Vida)
Bibanke – Asa (Asa)
Saturn – Stevie Wonder (Songs In The Key of Life [Reissue])
If It Wasn’t For Herbie And Chick – Frank McComb (A Tribute To The Masters)
I’ve Got The World On A String – Sarah Vaughan (The Best Of…)
Harry Hippie (Bobby Womack) – The Very Best of…
Sweet Nothing Serenade (Ben Harper) – Both Sides Of The Gun
High And Dry – Radiohead (The Best Of…)
Bridge Over Troubled Water – Paul Simon (1964-1993)
Medicine 4 My Pain – Lynden David Hall (Sexy Cindarella [Live Acoustic Edition])
Live Humble – Yusef Lateef (Introducing… )
Thank You Master For My Soul – Donny Hathaway (Everything is Everything)
